What is Invisalign ?
Everyone wants to have straight, beautiful teeth. Yet some people develop crooked teeth, either through age or genetics, and crooked teeth can cause considerable distress, and possibly hurt the person’s self-confidence.
For decades, the only solution was metal braces. While effective, metal braces also caused many different issues that caused people to shy away from them, including:
- Limitations on what you could eat or drink.
- Potential for tooth decay with improper maintenance.
- Irritation and pain.
In addition, many find that they lose confidence in the appearance of their teeth when they wear braces, causing them to try to hide their teeth every time they smile. Metal braces are also clearly visible, and for many that causes distress in social situations.
Although men and women of all ages struggle with tooth alignment, for many, metal braces simply were not the answer.
Invisalign in Orange County
Since 1999, however, there has been a huge movement within the orthodontic community to shift from bulky, restrictive metal braces to Invisalign – a clear, difficult to detect, alternative to braces that has opened the door for those that were once hesitant to solve their crooked teeth.
Invisalign is a system made up of strong, polyurethane aligners. These aligners are designed using 3D modeling technology to align your teeth in increments. Rather than fit your teeth with visible metal braces that can gather food and cause cuts in your mouth, Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners that are each worn for one to two weeks.
Each new aligner puts mild pressure on your teeth to change position. By the end of the one or two weeks, your teeth will have moved slightly, and then the next aligner continues the process. Also, although aligners are meant to be worn all throughout the day and night, they can also be removed for eating, drinking non-water beverages, and maintaining good oral hygiene (brushing and flossing).
An Alternative to Metal Braces in Orange County
The primary benefit of this system is the clarity. Unlike bulky metal braces, very few people will be able to tell that you are straightening your teeth. The aligners are highly transparent, rarely visible to the naked eye. Since they’re also removable, they are less likely to lead to tooth decay and damage, and won’t lead to any food restrictions either.
